MEP–06 · Service
Calculations and analysis
Load calculations, system sizing, pressure-loss checks and performance analysis linked to stated inputs and design decisions.
MM / MEP–06A traceable calculation record linking inputs, methods and assumptions to system selection, sensitivity checks and defined acceptance criteria.
Scope of service
Defined outputs, interfaces and stage responsibility.
The final scope is matched to the procurement route, available information and design responsibility. Unconfirmed inputs are held as project risks rather than hidden assumptions.
Scope
- Heating and cooling-load calculations
- Ventilation and air-distribution analysis
- Ductwork and pipework pressure-loss checks
- Domestic water and drainage calculations
- Plant, pump and fan duty assessment
- Smoke-control and life-safety calculations where formally appointed
Project stages
- Feasibility and option comparison
- Concept sizing
- Coordinated design
- Tender and equipment review
- Construction change assessment
Typical deliverables
- Input and assumption register
- Calculation sheets and model outputs
- Sensitivity and diversity checks
- Duty and selection schedules
- Review comments and limitations
- Acceptance-criteria schedule
Critical interfaces
The design is controlled at the points where disciplines meet.
Architectural areas and occupancy
Envelope and process data
Utility conditions
Equipment manufacturer data
Controls and operating modes
Commissioning measurements
Standards and review
Issue only what can be traced and checked.
Calculation methods follow the applicable statutory requirements, relevant CIBSE, BS, BS EN, BSRIA and project criteria. Methods and departures are named in the calculation record.
Every calculation identifies author, checker, revision, source inputs, assumptions, units and the decision it supports. Unverified inputs remain visible and are not converted into silent precision.
Relevant sectors
Applied where the operational brief shapes the engineering.
Appointment questions
Clarify responsibility before work starts.
Can Milli MEP check calculations prepared by another designer?
Yes. The scope can range from targeted spot checks to a defined independent recalculation, provided the review basis and reliance limits are agreed.
Are safety factors applied automatically?
No. Diversity, margins and resilience allowances must relate to the system, information quality and consequence of failure; they are stated rather than hidden.
Can calculations support equipment substitutions?
Yes, where the proposed duty, operating envelope, controls, spatial implications and downstream effects are assessed against the approved design criteria.
